Today, our main objective was to take photos of Ting Yu running or maybe even filming her running. Thankfully, she remembered to bring the clothing that we requested her to wear as the same day when we filmed her running in the Video Fundamental's class, if not we may have to film her the next day again.
Sad to say, not all group members were here. Aaron woke up late and had something on from 3-6pm so he wasn't able to help us with the shoot.
It was also tough having to find a single door. If I am not wrong Mr. Julian mentioned that it would look drastic having to see Ting Yu running towards a two sided door (if you know what I mean that is) to a one sized door. Due to his statement, we heeded his advice and it was sure tough trying to see where Ting Yu could run and don't forget that she could only run to a one sided door. But luckily for us, we managed to find the perfect location for her running which was of an alley, very close to the design's school canteen.
This was an image that I took when Ting Yu was running:
Amazingly, I felt that I like this photo very much due to its dramatic effect upon seeing it and Ting Yu somehow looks like a monster or something trying to escape hell or rather wanting to enter the world and have freedom. This was my interpretation when I saw this picture.
This is just a clearer and brighter picture of the alley that i was mentioning:
However, the next problem had yet to come; taking photos of Ting Yu running.
I must admit, it was really tedious having to take the sequence of Ting Yu running and on top of that it MUST NOT BE BLUR. Yi Chuin and I tried taking multiple shots of Ting Yu running with the school's mini DV camera and my aunt's camera respectively, but once again, the photos came out blur.
“Oh my God!! What must be done to solve this problem?" I pondered to myself.
I believed Yi Chuin was also having a tough time having to solve this problem too.
Mr. Alan did mention that Ting Yu could run on a track mill behind a blue screen but the problem was how on earth do we get the track mill. Instead, to make our jobs easier, we thought of actually just filming Ting Yu and put the tape to either After Effects or Premiere cutting off every frame; as in making photos of each frame. Suddenly, I recalled that we had learnt the adjustment of shutter speed from photography lesson where we can actually capture a car moving in slow motion with the right shutter speed that is. So with this in mind, we tried changing the shutter speed. However, the images were UNDER EXPOSED. (It means very dark/ no light) Hmm... Come to think of it, we may get a light thingy (if you get what I mean) but the problem would be that the lighting may vary which will look weird.
So once again, we sat down and try thinking of solutions. Yup, we actually gave up taking photos of Ting Yu running and chose to film her running as what I had mentioned earlier at the top.
You thought that our problem was over but guess again...
This time when we filmed Ting Yu running, no doubt that she was running towards the one sided door. However, the problem was when she ran into the Video Fundamental’s room- there was a small window or an opening on the door.
* Headache again man*
So this time, we sat down on the floor and think again. Woot!! Yi Chuin actually thought of a brilliant idea where the camera could actually be the door knob where Ting Yu can just open the 'camera' so that we need not show the door.
GREAT idea Yi Chuin. How come I didn't think of that... ha-ha… My brain was rusty.
Yup... The shoot was successful. Ting Yu ran through the alley multiple times but with a Sian look so I asked her to give a very anxious expression and even demonstrate for her to see. WAA LAH it turned out even better.
Oh ya, not to forget that I actually wanted to just zoom in to her legs then slowly zooming out to show her full body running but it seems to be inappropriate so we decided forgo that idea. Anyway, I am really satisfied with that scene. Just for your information, this scene consists of two shots- as in two locations. The next location that Ting Yu went was outside of the Video Fundamental’s room where Ting Yu actually opens the door but we focus more on her hands opening the door.
I think today my brain really thought a lot man. GREAT job for both Ting Yu and Yi Chuin. Due to the fact that Aaron didn't come today, so we didn't have the chance to film him looking at the storyboard while the puppet walks across the storyboard. But anyway, JOB WELL DONE FOR EVERYONE.
[Extra information: Both Yi Chuin and Ting Yu decided to meet up earlier tomorrow to edit the door]
Take care
Nites
